Which part of Aigburth Rd would be the first picture?
That first pic is so familiar, gave me a deja vu moment:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
No we are several blocks south of Aigburth Vale itself. Otterspool Park is to our left. We look to be at the corner of Woodlands Road and Aigburth Road. I believe there used to be a driving school headquarters in the shop that would be behind us. We are looking toward the junctions of Ashfield Road and then Aigburth Vale with Aigburth Road. I used to work at the bank at the corner of Ashfield Road -- it was a Martin's Bank when I worked there, later became Barclay's and is now a wine bar. See here for a map.

Thanks - that makes sense and it is like this now -

But what is with the cars? They seem to be driving the wrong way...:PDT_Xtremez_42:
Good work, AZ. Yes you can see that there's a datestone on the top of that building that's at the corner of Woodlands Road in both the old and the modern views. You can zoom into the Google street view and see that it reads "1907"! Oh, the marvels of technology. I also agree that it is disconcerting to see the traffic coming in a direction different to what we are used to here in the US of A. :)
Errr, no. It looks to me like the cars in pic #1 are going in the US direction, not the Liverpool direction...:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
...or was Aigburth Rd. not a dual carriageway then... but it sure looks like one.
I spent Feb. in Liverpool driving mum's car and I didn't get too mixed up...:PDT_Xtremez_42:
Spot on,Christopher....woodlands road to the right, the shops are still standing but derelict....
He's overtaking a cyclist,Az and it is a dual carriage way as the trams where in the center.Quote:

It is a dual road, always was from I remember. I knew that area well.
Never heard of Mersey Road az.
I don't think you were there in 1920....:)
Mersey Rd is 1500 ft SE of the picture and is the road off Aigburth Rd. going towards the river and Aigburth train station. The other direction goes up the hill to Barkhill Womens Phys Ed college...err JMU... and is called Barkhill Rd. For the drinkers, it's one short block from the Sakara Wine bar...:PDT_Aliboronz_24:
I was only out a little bit....:Smiliz_Kingz_PDT_13

Err... no again... the cars are going away from the photographer and if it's dual carriageway then they are on the US side of the road. Check out the tyre on the back of the car.
It almost looks like two parallel roads on either side of the tram tracks, with each one being two-way.
Did they make roads like that in the 20's alongside tram tracks?
When I used that section of road last month I was driving towards the photographer and no-one was honking at me....:)
Az,the car is driving the correct way the parked up van tells us that and as I said he's overtaking the cyclist.
I I stand in the middle of a dual carriageway here in the UK I will have cars rear to my left going away from me and the cars front coming towards me on my right.
If you look in the other carriage way there is a truck going the same way in the same lane as the other motorist.

A simple explanation might be road works on the other side
No... your picture shows the cars in the lane away from the river coming towards you - like I said this is the way it was in Feb...:)
The tyre on the car in the original picture has it moving away from you in the same lane - I do know it's normal but it does nicely define front from rear, the car coming or going...:)
If this is the case, then it's not a real dual carriageway which is two one-way lanes with a central divider of some sort - the tram lines in this case.
I still don't get your answer, and the question still stands, did they make divided roads with two-way traffic on either side of the central divider?

Maybe, but it looks like a lorry going into town and bicylists riding away from town on the river side of the two roads/lanes...
